Dodos were large flightless birds that lived on the island of Mauritius, which is a few hundred nautical miles due east of modern-day Madagascar. They stood approximately 3 feet tall and generally weighed between 45-66 pounds, with their last known sighting being in the late 1600s; just over a century after humans arrived on Mauritius.
They evolved in isolation on the island for thousands of years without any known natural predators. And, because they had no natural predators, they didn't seem to mind when humans arrived, who brought with them invasive species such as rats, pigs and monkeys. As a result of this no-fear attitude toward "predators", they became easy targets for sailors and other hungry mammals, while having their own natural environment and food supply disrupted. It wasn't long before the last one was gone.
Stop dumping fucking pythons and caimans into the Everglades please.
