No paperwork has never unconditionally jumped into the dark frigid water after a swim buddy, nor has a PowerPoint ever carried his homie back to the barracks at 6am after a night out on Gate 2 Street.  Special request chits never provided you with a drunken shoulder to cry on and I can't imagine anyone at the Pentagon has ever stabbed his roomie with a K-Bar, just to see if his flack would stop it. 

We've puked on strip club stages and gotten our asses kicked because our bro can't keep his mouth shut.  This is what those who have never served will never understand.  It's family.  It's family you can't ignore or disown - family that you HAVE to work your shit out with.  It's dogging your bro until rage spews and then him coming to help you move the next morning like nothing ever happened.  Because when you're there, the only thing that matters is him — your brother.  The dude who knows more about you than your parents or biological siblings or spouse ever will.
